Repurposed Rainbows are a series of upcycled art pieces made from plastics and other debris collected during beach, trail and street clean-ups, as well as non-recyclable 'trash' that was interesting enough to hold onto. The rainbows start with a cardboard arch, cut from scrap boxes at the cinder + salt print studio, and are then decorated with our supply of creative reuse materials.

The back of each rainbow includes a handwritten description of what is included on it, as well as where the materials came from. They are numbered and signed by artist Rachel DeCavage.

Rachel is the owner & creative director of cinder + salt. She is a lifelong environmental activist determined to take in as much of the Earth's beauty & wonder as possible in her lifetime. During her travels she regularly offsets her trips with volunteer work and collecting waste when in nature. She uses these collected materials to create one of a kind art pieces for cinder + salt to build eco-optimism and inspire others to engage with nature in meaningful ways.

About this piece :

The hard blue plastics on this arch were collected from the beaches of Tortuguero, Costa Rica, an important nesting habitat for endangered sea turtles. The arch also includes a helium balloon, an onion bag, floral bouquet wrap, yellow drinking straws,, a plastic shopping bag and a purple poly mailer.

Measures 12" wide by 6.5" tall. Hanging loop is 2.5" long for a total height of 9"

Due to the repurposed nature of this piece, all sales are final. Some debris, particularly ocean-worn plastics, are delicate and may break over time; treat your rainbow with care and hang or display in a safe area (keep away from cats and kids).
